The 19-year-old John Shackelford first became interested in magic as a child after seeing Lance Burton buried alive on television.

He started performing at age 6, and three years ago, began opening for local and national music acts, including New Found Glory, Electric Six, Mickey Avalon and Ke$ha.

Shackelford has appeared on MTV and local television and radio, including WILD 104.9, where he successfully predicted the teams and final score of the 2010 Super Bowl two weeks in advance. He’s performed at a number of local venues, including The Opolis, The Conservatory, Bricktown Live and the Diamond Ballroom, but considers Bora Bora his home.

So it’s only fitting for him to debut his new show there.

“They took a shot in the dark and gave me a chance two years ago, and we have been like family ever since,” he said.

Shackelford counts David Copperfield, David Blaine and Criss Angel ” not for his magic but for his attitude ” among his influences, but also takes a lot of inspiration from music and movies, in an attempt to create a more dynamic show.

“Regardless of who I’m performing for, I have never had an issue making them laugh. I can be witty and charming while bewildering you,” he said.

Shackelford’s performance this weekend will run about 35 minutes, and includes some old favorites as well as new material that he’s been developing over the last six months.

“I am performing an illusion involving turntables, which is my largest illusion to date and is 100-percent original to me, so you won’t see it performed by anyone else,” he said.

The show will feature performances by several local bands, including Duo the Sick, Young Jones, Splif, DJ Matt Lindsey and The Feather Pine River Band. Kneighbourhood will headline, celebrating the release of its new CD. “Eric Webb

Hello ladies and gents, well mainly Tim Olsen since he is my only follower currently.

For This blog I would like to lay out all of my goals from now till september.

I tried making a list of all of my goals that I would love to accomplish this year but there are far too many. A lot of them probably won’t even happen this year but who knows.

As stated before my biggest task is to lose 55 pounds if not more by September. I want to do this for obvious reasons as in my health, but I want to look good and gain the confidence as well.

My next big goal is getting a car… I had a car but for reasons I will not disclose here that car was taken from me. So for the last year I have been driving my mothers car.

As Well I need to get a new job I actually just lost my job TODAY soo it’s pretty important that I jump on the band wagon and get a new one ASAP.

I want to take my magic act to a whole new level and build an all new act from the ground up. I really would like the act to “get the party started” thus I have chosen a theme of doing tricks that could tie into the theme of a house party. I perform mainly in bars and clubs rather than concert venues now-a-days so I would love to have a few different shows to present for different clients. Currently I just change up the wording depending on where I am performing. I have a bartending routine planned out I just need to finish putting it all together and I think it would be the perfect opener to get the crowd excited.

Since I promote myself similar to the way bands and rappers promote themselves I feel I should have merch to sell at shows I have some cool ideas for T-shirts. As Well I would LOVE to have an awesome DVD that I could sell or even give away.

I want to create a KICK-ASS music video style demo. My current demo videos in my opinion are a tad boring. I just feel they don’t represent me and my personality at all the way I want them to. I’m a fun guy and that definitely needs to be represented in my demo video.

I am going into the Army National Guard in September but I would love to either go on a tour before then or, do another TV spot before then just so I can stay fresh in the circut for the 6 months that I’m gone. The last thing I want is for people to forget all about me and then I have to start all over again with everything I have worked for. SO I have decided to create business cards and press kits to send out to the Late Night Shows. I would absolutely LOVE to be a guest on Jimmy Fallon’s show or Conan, or George Lopez, Jimmy Kimmel, basically I would love to be on any of their shows I Love them all. oh and if you didn’t know I’m a huge fan of Late Night talk shows.

I have a ton of goals and these are just a few of them, but the last thing I would like to share on this blog today is that another goal I have for 2011 in general is to build a strong fan base of people that love magic and that love me! As I have said I would love to meet each and everyone of you guys out there that have a desire to meet me so the more people I can get involved in my “movement” if I can be as bold as to even call what I am trying to accomplish a movement, the more I will be able to get out there and be able to interact and shake hands and talk and performer for each and everyone of you without there having to be a computer screen, or an ocean, or even a state between us. I would love to come to you someday and say “Hello I’m John Shackelford” face to face. Sometimes I feel like I remember bits and pieces of being a baby, but the first memories I really have are of my 3rd birthday party.

Well my primary goal with my journey here is getting into shape. I want to lose a total of 55 pounds by september. Now I’m not saying I’m superficial or anything along the lines but I need a good confidence boost, I would love to be in shape not just for my career but for me. I’ve always been the “fat kid” when I was in 10th grade I weighed in at 300 pounds, I played soccer and ended up losing 100 pounds. In 11th grade I didn’t neccessarily get complemented well I did, but not in a way that really made me feel good about myself. People said things like “Damn he lost a lot of weight” as flattered as I am that you noticed that you were no longer in my gravitational pull, it’s not what I wanted.

I want so much more than that, I want to be able to run around and not feel like an elephant trampled me. I want to be seen as a real person not as the “fat kid” that does cool magic tricks. I want to be known for who I am (John Shackelford if you have been keeping track) I am a pretty nice guy, I accept just about everyone, I have enough life experiences so far that I can relate to just about anyone. When you think of John Shackelford I want you to think of me, does that make any sense? Seriously google the name John Shackelford there is a UFC fighter and me and several others, although I think John David Shackelford and Myself are the most notable. Go ahead look up John David he is a nice guy plus he’s a badass UFC fighter! As much as I would love to hop into a ring and knock some bitches out and then have them pick a card being the multifacited type that I am I doubt I could put in that much work and I like my face too much for that.

I have several other goals as well, I want to take the entertainment industry and shake it up a bit letting the world know that a Magician like myself can perform with america’s top 40 and still rock your socks, which thus far I have only scratched the surface. SO through this long winded rant I am telling you, I John Shackelford will take this world by storm one step at a time. All the while I will be ranting and raving about it as much as possible : )

I will also include videos and pictures and maybe even podcasts, I am also thinking of hosting an online late night show once a week, but I would like to gain some popularity first.
